 |
In 1823 Shigetaka Kiyohara (1779-1847) authored a three volume, woodblock-printed picture book entitled Sōmoku Seifu (Compendium of Plant Characteristics). The forty-eight pictures of plants were drawn by Gessai Numata (1787-1864) and Toyofumi Mizutani (1779-1833). They drew the shapes of their plant subjects accurately but only colored a few of them.
